What can I do to Adjust PPM for Hydroponics?

When we are talking about hydroponics the best seed banks is the first, we cannot forget about the PPM for hydroponics. It stands for parts per million. This number is commonly used as an indicator of the level of the nutrient solution inside your hydroponic reservoir. It can indicate the total milligrams of nutrients that can be found in every liter of water.

This nutrient is very useful to support the plants on their growth stage. As all of you know, young plants (such as crops, seedlings, and some leafy greens) may require fewer nutrients than the other actively growing herbs and fruits. In some cases, you may want to adjust the PPM level for your hydroponic system. Here are some useful tips on how you can adjust the PPM level easily.

#1 Use a truncheon meter

When you are planning to adjust the PPM level of any nutrients, you should start using a truncheon meter. This device can be used to measure the current PPM level of the solution. You can hold the probe tip inside the nutrient solution for about 1 – 2 minutes. Then, you can read the measurement result from the meter’s side.

#2 Calculate the right amount of nutrient to add

You can add 1 milligram of nutrients for every a liter of water when you are planning to add a point on the PPM level. For example, if the PPM is 900 and you want the number to be 1,500, you need to add about 600 milligrams of nutrient to one liter of water. When the PPM level is too high, you can add tap water to the solution for reducing the PPM level.

#3 Mix them until they are mixed completely

When you are planning to mix nutrients and water to the solution, you need to mix them. It is recommended for you to mix all ingredients completely, so you can have an even solution for your plant. Stir the water until all nutrients dissolve. If you are planning to add more than one nutrient, you should add them one-by-one. By doing so, you can ensure that every nutrient can be dissolved in the solution completely.

#4 Use a measuring cup or measuring dropper

This is another additional tip that you can follow for adjusting the PPM level for your hydroponic system. A measuring cup or measuring dropper can be an important device that you need to have. This device can ensure that you have an accurate level for adding nutrients to the solution.

#5 Always follow the manufacturer for getting the right order

When you are required to add several nutrients to the solution, you should follow the instructions from the manufacturer. These instructions are specially created to help you improve the effectiveness of these nutrients. For example, if you want to add a macronutrient solution to your hydroponic system, you are required to add the potassium phosphate, then you can add the potassium nitrate, calcium nitrate, and also followed by the magnesium sulfate. You need to add these nutrients in the right order.
